If the last 4 weeks have taught me anything, it is this.
A few weeks ago, I was having severe pain in my upper abdomen. I just ignored it for a week finally I started to get concerned and went to an instacare. They told me to take Mirolax and if I didn’t feel better the next day to go to the hospital.
I tried mirolax and several other items (magnesium citrate to name another). I finally, and much to my resistance, went to the Emergency Room. They ran a CT SCAN and seemed more interested in thinking my Lapband was causing a problem. The doctor came back and said everything looked fine, sent me home saying if I didn’t feel better to come back.
Basically, I felt stupid for going there, as if they patted me on the head. It’s one of the zillion reasons I hate the ER. Out of all of the places they should not treat people as a one size, one cure fits all.
The pain went away, but a week or so later came back with a vengeance.
Wednesday, the pain started mildly. Thursday night was worse. Saturday and Sunday the green bile vomit started and never let up.
Sunday night, I finally had enough and went back to the ER. This time, I was doubled over in pain, and my face must have said something because I was given a wheelchair.
The intake process was slower than my initial visit a couple of weeks prior. My loudly throwing up in the bathroom, that probably echoed through the ER I was finally taken to an intake room that they hooked me up to a heart machine briefly, I forgot the name of it, Eventually I was whisked away to a room.
The CT scan was repeated. The Ear Dr comes in and says that the CT shows a small bowel obstruction. Tells me that the surgeons don’t usually like to do surgery they just stick a tube in a d bla bla bla. They are going to admit me and observe me overnight. The Dr also said the surgeons reviewing the scan would come in and talk to me.
In walks, one of the surgeons who says that they are going to get me in for surgery within the hour. The surgeon walked out, and I turned to my husband and said,’Did I just go from being observed overnight to surgery within the hour in less than 15 minutes?’
So it seems my Lapband was the culprit. The small bowel got tangled with one of the Lapband wires. 20 years of not one complication with my Lapband and all of a sudden, it gives me issues?
Surgery went well, and the pain is gone. But now all the questions begin. Why?
Where do I go from here?
