I woke up, got dressed and took the 15 minute drive to Salt Lake Behavioral Health for my first group therapy session.  I was nervous about participating in group therapy.  So I went in with an open mind, but still nervous of not being able to “spill my guts” so to speak in front of people I didn’t know. As I listened to others talk about things going on in their lives I started to feel a little less nervous.

At some point in the 3 hour therapy session the therapist, Rhett, looked at me and said those magic words. “Robin I think you have something you would like to share with the group. Do you want to share what has brought you here today?” At this point my brain and emotions were about to explode.  So I talked briefly about what had been going on over the last year.  There were a lot of the details I skipped over because I really didn’t have a lot of time to get into the details.

After I had been going through the 9 week therapy programs at some point I told Rhett that if he had not asked me to talk about what I was going through I don’t if I would have returned to the therapy program the next day and all the other days after.  If I had not attended those therapy sessions I honestly don’t know where I would be right now.  I can honestly say that Rhett helped save my sanity that day.
